TOP TRENDS OF 2009

LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT?

1. Studs & Grommets

The haute punk rocker came out this year with garments completely embellished with studs and grommets. This trend elevated from the dazzling 80’s/British punk flair. Grommets covered cocktail dresses and added an edge to evening wear. The trend seemed like it was over in the summer but studded and sequined clothing made a hugee comeback right after the Michael Jackson tragedy when many designers paid tribute and recreated versions of his style. The studs were seen on everything this year from shoes to belts to dresses and accessories.
We all know Studs, Sequins definitely dominated all of our wardrobes!

2. Gladiator Shoes - we couldn't get enough!

Fashionistas were falling for gladiator style shoes like crazy this year. When i first started seeing this style of shoe in the streets i actually fell in love, i adore a great design on a sandel and given their popularity with the Hollywood set and supermodels such as Kate Moss, the traditional gladiator sandal of the last two years has been elevated to greater heights as the “it” shoe of the year. We all loved the Gladiator Shoe!

3.Statement Jewelry

In 2009 size mattered, and bold, bulky accessories with an edge were worn and as well as multiple pieces being worn at once. This has to be one of my fave.. i indulged in this fad, i own so many different statement necklaces, rings, bracelets, head bands.. i really liked the creativity of this trend and different beautiful pieces that were available everywhere.
Less is no longer more. The bottom line is that when it came to accessories in 2009, the bigger and more exotic, the better.

4. Booties

I was very skeptical about buying my first pair of heeled booties, as shoes cutting at the ankle isn't exactly the most flattering if your not a 100 pounds or less. However people ignored this rule in 2009 and it worked! booties took over our fave shoe shops. They are very edgy and perfect to create an edgy look.

5. leather leggings!

Daring leather leggings made you look undeniably feminine yet unbelievably edgy. Those stuck to you leggings were never confused with spandex workout gear. The one problem with this trend was that many people needed to be reminded that leggings are not pants. I repeat, leggings are not pants!!! It got a little awkward around campus seeing some females thinking it was okay to wear them as pants paired with a short top. yikkes. (see lady gaga)
But overall i loved the leather leggings
